Since the 7.3 earthquake and subsequent 6.1 aftershock hit Haiti, various agencies and emergency response personnel from the U.S. and UK have worked to gather supplies and aide for the people there. With better communication and the use of the airport once again being established, aide is drifting in via other means as well.
Firefighters, Paramedics, trained SBC Disaster Relief workers and the Red Cross have all sent First Responders and emergency crews to assist in relief and recovery efforts in the hardest hit areas of Haiti. Over the past week the news media has barraged us with horrifying images that don’t rightly do this human tragedy in Haiti any real justice; but with eyes to see and a heart to feel, we can surely know that our prayers are still desperately needed.
No one can truly fathom the depths to which such destruction takes a city and its’ people unless one has been in the midst of it. First responders in our midst take to the streets, country-side and general suburbia each day to face what they know could turn out to be traumatic situations. With the knowledge of some small and large scale disasters and emergencies under their belt, trained personnel from amongst our own have volunteered of their own time and efforts to help in some of the worst conditions in Haiti.
On behalf of all First Responders: Firefighters, Paramedics, EMT’s, Disaster Relief Workers, Red Cross Workers and the National Guard; a local prayer service has been planned by the Fellowship of Christian Paramedics. The event will take place on Friday, February 5th, 2010 at the Thomas and King Leadership Conference Center on the campus of Georgetown, College. The service is also being sponsored with Crossroads Christian Church.
Various churches, off-duty ambulance and fire department personnel around the state will be heading to the event in order to support their brothers and sisters in Christ as well as their brothers and sisters in the uniform. For those who wish to car-pool, Georgetown campus is approximately a 20 minute drive from Frankfort; 15 minutes from Lexington and an hour from Louisville.
The Fellowship of Christian Paramedics’ (FCP) goal is to help provide physical and spiritual support for those in the Emergency Services field. By taking up donations and holding a prayer service, they hope to specifically assist those who go to Haiti to volunteer; with hopes to send experienced Chaplains to serve the needs of the rescue and relief workers who are coming and going from the ravaged country.
The service on February 5th will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and everyone is welcome. Donations for the relief efforts and chaplain services to Haiti will be taken up at the door but FCP asks that you not be hindered by lack of funds. There is no cost to come pray with those who wish to honor the rescue and relief workers or glorify the Lord. If you wish to donate but cannot attend, please click into the FCP website for more information.
FCP is for all Paramedics, EMT’s and First Responders. Interested in joining? Their next meeting will be February 16th, 2010 at 12 Noon in Georgetown Kentucky. For more information please call 502-542-0426 or send an email to: fellowshipofchristianparamedics@live.com
