The Government of God: Examining from a Christian Perspective [Part 1]

Photo from creativecommons.org

I have recently learned of a most disturbing cult that has already gained the trust of thousands, if not millions, of people and would like to raise awareness concerning the heresy of its message. I am doing this in attempts to educate followers of Jesus Christ so that we can better defend our faith and know how to share the reason for the hope that is in us.

According to a YouTube video, The Government of God, also known as the International Ministry Growing in Grace, is one of the fastest growing cults in Latin America. It is also spreading throughout Canada, Spain, and Germany. Its leader, Dr. Jose Luis De Jesus Miranda, claims to be God in the flesh and fulfilling the prophecy of the second coming of Christ.

His followers refer to him as “The Man Christ Jesus” and follow his example by tattooing the numbers 666 on their body. According to the cult’s Web site, this number is a seal of prosperity and is the number of man (or beast, to them it’s the same thing). It is the number that identifies Jesus Christ in his second coming (#10 under 666).

Under their Thesis of the Reformation, there are six truths that “confront 2000 years of theological lies”:
1. Sin does not exist, it was removed (Heb. 9:26)
2. The devil does not exist, he was destroyed (Heb. 2:14)
3. There are two gospels (Gal. 2:7)
4. One ministry: reconciliation, NOT repentance (2 Cor. 5:19; Heb. 6:1)
5. Predestination (Eph. 1:11)
6. The Bible: Scripture (Ex. 32:16), history Lc. 1:1), gospel of uncircumcision and circumcision (Gal. 2:7)

There are many references throughout the gospels that refer to false prophets. 2 Peter 2:1 (NASB) says, “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.”

The MacArthur Bible Commentary gives ten marks of a false prophet, all taken from 2 Peter 2 & 3:
1. Teach destructive heresies (2:1)
2. Deny Christ (2:1)
3. Blasphemers (2:2)
4. Twist Scripture (2:2,3)
5. Covetous (2:3, 14)
6. Self-willed (2:10)
7. Immoral (2:10, 14)
8. Wicked (2:12, 14)
9. Bring true faith into disrepute (2:15)
10. Mock Christ’s Second Coming (3:4)

While the meaning of 666 is not fully explained in the Bible, it does specifically mention the mark of the beast. Revelation 13:18 says, “Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.”

The MacArthur Commentary also says that the beast refers to Antichrist who will have a name inherent in the numbering system. “When Antichrist is finally revealed, there will be some way to identify him with this basic number, or his name may have the numerical equivalent of 666.” (p.2020)

    Regards in the best day.
Just wanted to say that if you base your opinion on what Peter wrotte then your opinion isn´t one that can be taken as truthful as Peter "did not walk uprightly according to the truth" (gal.2:14).
Paul does say that sin was taken AWAY: heb 9:26
The devil was destroyed: Heb 2:14
    Two gosspels: Gal 2:7
    Reconciliation: 2Cor. 5:19
    not repentance: Heb 6:1
    Predestination: Eph. 1:11
    Scripture: Ex.32:16 | History: Lc.1:1 |uncircumsition and Circumsition: Gal 2:7

Just wanted to put the biblical grounds as you forgot to include them from the "Thesis of the Reformation" and only put your verses to defend your point. it´s important so that those who like to "Put everything to the test..." (1tes5:1) can verify with their bible the other side of the story too.

Good article to make people aware there are wolves out their seeking whom they may devour. The Truth in Jesus Christ sets us free. "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south." Psalm 107:2

Thanks for the feedback! MR, you're right, I forgot to put in the scripture references under the Thesis of the Reformation, so I went ahead and put those in. Concerning basing opinion on Peter's words, Paul did rebuke him in Gal. 2:14 for not being straightforward about the truth of the gospel. However, 2 Peter makes reference to him repenting from his ways. He also talks about growing in Christian virtue in 2 Peter 1.

The problem that I have with the way you use scripture is that you pick and choose the ones that you want to fit your point instead of bringing up other verses that also talk about it (this Peter one is an example). Another example has to do with the first point under the Thesis of Reformation, that sin does not exist. Yes, Heb. 9:26 says that Christ died to take our sin away. But Romans 3:23 also says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Without repentance from sin, wicked men cannot have fellowship with a holy God. Jesus told His hearers that w

Sorry, not sure why that last one cut off. What I was saying was that Jesus told His hearers that without repentance, they would perish (Luke 13:3).

    Bendecidos.
