The Indiana Jones "spirit" lives again in Daniel Levin's new book, The Last Ember. The story concerns a reluctant hero, attorney Jonathan Marcus, who is sent by his firm on a sudden and mysterious mission to Rome, the scene of his academic disgrace seven years earlier. Upon arriving, Jonathan can’t deny his passion and skill or ignore his feelings for a long lost girlfriend after he lands back in his previous world of archeological research. A modern web of terror, destruction and deception as complex as the ancient Roman-Jewish world it parallels emerges as Jonathan slips, once again, into the fray.
The Last Ember is a must read for anyone who desires a greater understanding of the role of archeology to Christians and Jews alike, and the tenuous position of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
Levin's extensive research and education show to advantage as he interweaves current events with history seamlessly. His plot concept was born out of real life Israeli politics. His visual descriptions of the Roman catacombs and the underground tunnels of the Temple Mount bring alive the sights, sounds and smells of archeology.
The Last Ember reveals unique glimpses into the ancient world and ancient languages. It teaches history, puts biblical events into an interesting context, and describes an interesting theory about the controversial Jewish historian known as Josephus. And, finally, this thriller resolves in a satisfying ending of hope and faith.

That's the second Temple Mount-themed novel to be published in a month. In June, God's Elect appeared.
thanks, I'll have to check it out.
Great review! Just finished an advanced readers copy of this novel, and it was phenomenal. I had no idea there were actually illegal excavations beneath the Temple Mount. Talk about a timely novel. Of great importance to all Christians and Jews. Amazing historical premise with the pace of a beach read.
I'll have to pick this up. It looks like a very interesting and exciting read with great historical significance.
This book was a winner. Read a galley of this novel through the Amazon Vine program. Couldn't believe how this story brought the ancient world to life!! Those scenes beneath Jerusalem's Temple Mount and Rome's Colosseum. . . I felt like I was in those chase scenes!
