Bill Nye booed, but nothing to cry over

bill nye, bill nye booed, science guy,
Bill Nye The Science Guy

It has been all over the news, and buzzing around blogs, Christian, Science, and Atheist. With headlines that blare: 'Bill Nye Booed by Bible Believers...', and 'Bill Nye, Making Texas Look Bad', and 'Nye, Booed by Believers'. What was it that this former Boeing employee gone celebrity said that got the bible believing audience so stirred up?

Accorrding to an article by Tim Woods, Tribune-Herald staff writer, Nye started the meeting off by;

Opening with a discussion of Mars and his hopes for further discovery on the neighboring planet, Nye encouraged the audience to take interest in discovery and “change the world,” a mantra he repeated throughout.Nye indicated that the presence of water in Mars’ atmosphere - evidenced by the planet’s ability to form frost - leads him to believe that there is a strong possibility that the planet once supported life.

The Emmy-winning scientist angered a few audience members when he criticized literal interpretation of the biblical verse Genesis 1:16, which reads: “God made two great lights - the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.” He pointed out that the sun, the “greater light,” is but one of countless stars and that the “lesser light” is the moon, which really is not a light at all, rather a reflector of light." -Read Tim's entire article.  Waco Tribune

As I was researching this article I found myself swimming through an ocean of opinions from all over the nation about disappointment in the church. Many atheists, agnostics, and skeptics are using this as an opportunity to say, "See I told you so". One comment from a concerned atheist, posted on The Inquisitr caught my attention, because it seemed to be the comment at the heart of most opinions I read:
According to the Waco Tribune-
A number of audience members left the room at that point, visibly angered by what some perceived as irreverence.“We believe in a God!” exclaimed one woman as she left the room with three young children.

As the Wichita Christian Faith & Culture Examiner I have to ask: Is this a proper portrayal of the Church when it comes to the influence of science in creation?

In blog after blog, and news story after story Americans read about the people who walked out, and a woman who was angered, yelling "We Believe in God", and that's about it. If you read all of Tim Woods' article, you get to see more of the story, in his own words, Time reported:

It seemed most in attendance were pleased to hear Nye speak, and some were even awed by the presence of a childhood icon. read full article

Sure there has been a history of Church Vs.Science, but that is really a thing of the past. There's no doubt that there are pockets of believers who want nothing to do with science at all. But with more and more scientists, and physicists becoming believers themselves, more evidence is being presented that shows the perfect marriage of science and creation, and science being clear evidence of the fingerprint of God.

Ben Stien is one of many leading the charge with his new campaign EXPELLED: No Intelligence allowed!

As for Bill Nye's falling out with the Church, there is none. Media is media. Anytime someone even slightly makes some mistake, or does something that will 'sell' magazines or papers, everyone jumps on the band wagon. I say, do the research. Don't take everything at face value. Be thinkers.

    Great article. I think that you are right, if you read the whole story, it was really a great success that just about everyone was happy about, except a few, which the media hurried to use to make Christians look stupid.

    Great article, I have read all three so far and can not wait for more.

    Keep up the good work.
