The Philadelphia area was already pounded with snow this past weekend, but weather reports are predicting another big storm this week. If school is canceled, here are some TV shows that will entertain your school age kids between sledding jags and snowball fights. Note: Hot chocolate is required.
Disney Channel- Preschoolers rule the Disney channel in the mornings, so send your older kids out to play in the snow during the a.m. hours. But at noon, Masters Tall Tales comes on, followed by a marathon of your kids favorite shows. Depending on the day, the marathon may be Phineas and Ferb, That’s So Raven, Jonas, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody , Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place or Sonny With a Chance. Note: For this Wednesday, the day it’s supposed to snow, 5 episodes of Phineas and Ferb are slated to begin at 1:30.
Discovery Kids- The Discovery Kids Network is packed with shows aimed at school aged children. Kids can catch Kenny the Shark, The Future is Wild, Trading Spaces Boys Vs. Girls, DinoSapien, Saddle Club, Scout’s Safari and Darcy’s Wild Life.
Nick Jr- As with most children’s networks, the morning slots on Nick Jr. are devoted to shows aimed at preschoolers, like Dora the Explorer and The Backyardigans. But after lunch, shows more appealing to school age kids return (because face it, no third grader wants to be caught watching Dora or Deigo). Starting at 2:00, the big kid’s lineup starts up with Spongebob Squarepants, The Fairly Oddparents, Fanboy and Chum Chum, iCarly and Brainsurge.
PBS Kids- Philly’s WHYY Channel 12 is also mostly kiddie oriented during the earlier hours, but in the afternoon older kids will enjoy Martha Speaks, WordGIrl, Cyberchase and The Electric Company.
Whatever you and your kids decide to do, enjoy the snow day!

Cool idea for an article!
At my house, Nick Jr. in the AM for preschoolers rules!!
Great article for Aunties and Uncles, too-- I've never heard of half of these shows!
