Chicago families at the 2009 Chicago Green Festival were introduced to the Global Green Pals™ eco-educational dolls. Each adorable character is made from eco-friendly materials and teaches about a different way that kids can save the planet.

Who are the Global Green Pals™?

The Global Green Pals™ are a club of kid explorers from different places around the world who act as eco-ambassador role models. They teach children in a fun and engaging way about different environmental issues and the little actions that kids can take to make a difference in saving the planet.

  • Carbon Offset Chet™ (from London, England) teaches about reducing air pollution by flying in a solar-powered plane he invented and built himself.
  • Clean Air Kate™ (from Chicago, IL) teaches about reducing air pollution by riding a bicycle and planting new trees.
  • Pani Rani™ (from Rajasthan, India) teaches how to save water and why water conservation is important. (Her name means "Water Princess" in her native language, Hindi.)
  • Pink Coral Laurel™ (from Australia) teaches about global warming and water pollution while working to keep the ocean and its animal and plant life safe and healthy.
  • Recycle Kyle™ (from Seattle, WA) teaches his community how to recycle different materials and why recycling is important.

Helena Robertson and Malini Goel, the partners behind Global Green Pals™, have ideas for many more characters to add to this educational line in the future.

Dolls made from eco-friendly materials

The Global Green Pals™ do not just teach about protecting the environment; they help the Earth themselves by being constructed from natural and recycled supplies. Each 12-inch doll is made from eco-friendly materials such as Oeko-Tex 100% certified organic cotton, certified and tested organic and natural cotton, and recycled paper tags. They are stuffed with filling made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic PET bottles.

History of Global Green Pals™

The partners behind this line of Earth-friendly, educational dolls are lifelong friends who have known each other since they were four and used to live only a few houses apart. Malini Goel is a lawyer and environmental policy analyst, and Helena Robertson is a mother of two who also cares about helping the environment. Together, these two women created the stories and personalities for each Global Green Pal™. Rachel Lubanowski, who also cares about the environment, brought her knowledge of design and organic materials to the partners and helped them turn their dream of these dolls into a reality.

Global Green Pals™ dolls

In their size, feel, and design, these cute soft dolls are comparable to Manhattan Toy's line of popular Groovy Girls dolls or the plush Disney Princess rag dolls. Each Global Green Pal™ stands 12 inches tall, has removable clothing, comes with character-specific tips for helping the planet, and has a detailed, embroidered face. They are machine-washable and designed to appeal equally to both boys and girls.

In person, the dolls are engaging, with faces and clothing details full of personality. The characters have a charm in and of themselves as fun playthings beyond the environmental messages that they are teaching.

Where to find and how to buy Global Green Pals™

The Global Green Pals™ will be available for sale soon at amazon. Interested parents can e-mail info@globalgreenpals.com for more information about preordering them. Currently these brand-new eco-pals are expected to be ready for delivery in August 2009. The company is also exploring ways to make these Earth-friendly dolls available at brick-and-mortar stores in Chicago (and other places) in the future.
