Chicago fans of American Girl dolls can visit American Girl Place Chicago all summer long to participate in programs and activities. From themed crafts to store classes to days with a special relative, the events organized by American Girl Place Chicago will appeal to every taste.

Space is limited for many of these events. Call 1-877-AG-PLACE (1-877-247-5223) to reserve a place for events for which reservations are required.

Molly's Star Whirler Craft – July 4

On July 4, children ages 8 and up can visit the store from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to participate in Molly's Star Whirler Craft. During this free event that is open to all, kids can make a patriotic star whirler craft to use to celebrate the United States of America just as Molly does in her stories.

Late Night at American Girl – July 11

On July 11, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., girls ages 8 and up can call to reserve a place and pay $195 to attend a private after-hours party at the store. During this special event, kids can shop the store's merchandise, have their doll's hair styled by the American Girl salon stylists, and enjoy a nice meal in the American Girl café. As a special souvenir, each attendee can take home a picture of herself on the cover of American Girl magazine.

Doll Hair Salon Spectaculars – July and September

Girls ages 8 and up who want to learn how to style hair can call for reservations and pay $25 to attend a private session in the American Girl doll hair salon. Stylists will teach attendees two kinds of ways to arrange hair.

  • On July 1, 4, 8, 11, 15, 18, 22, 25, and 29, stylists will teach girls how to create "five-minute doll 'dos," such as braided headband, twisty bun, and game-time ponytail.
  • On September 5, 6, 12, 17, 19, 24, and 26, stylists will teach girls how to style short and long hair with braids and bows.

Times for each session will vary, so ask for details when calling for reservations.

Chrissa's Friendship Craft – August

On certain days in August, kids ages 8 and up can visit from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to make Chrissa's Friendship Craft, a unique handmade bookmark just like the one this 2009 Girl of the Year made in her story. (This free event is open to the public and takes place on August  1, 8, 15, 22, 23, and 29).

 

Dazzling Doll 'Dos and Photo Studio – August

On certain days in August, children ages 8 and up can reserve a place and pay $35 to come into the store at 8:15 a.m. for a special doll portrait event. First, doll stylists will help kids create a crown veil or ponytail veil hairdo for their dolls. Then children can pose with their dolls in the Photo Studio. Girls will receive a 5 x 7 framed photo and wallet-sized photos as souvenirs of the day. (This event requires reservations and takes place on August 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29.)

Kaya's Birthday Celebration – August 14

On August 14, American Girl Place Chicago will hold a Character Birthday Celebration for Kaya. Children ages 8 and up can come to the store from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to enjoy free activities. Kids can also reserve a place and pay $25 to attend a special meal in the American Girl Café. During Kaya's Birthday Celebration, children will learn about Kaya's historical life and be given a keepsake book.

Memories with Mom

Girls ages 6 and up can reserve a place and pay $50 per person to spend a special day at American Girl Place Chicago with their mothers. Moms and daughters will share activities, a meal, and a portrait-taking experience.

  • For a 7:30 p.m. dinner seating, make reservations for July 9, 16, or 23; August 5 or 15; or September 12.
  • For a 5:30 p.m. dinner seating, make reservations for June 28 or September 18.

A Great Day with Grandparents

Girls ages 6 and up can reserve a place and pay $50 per person to spend a special day at American Girl Place Chicago with a grandparent. Grandparents and grandchildren will share activities, a meal, and a portrait-taking experience.

  • For a 7:30 p.m. dinner seating, make reservations for August 7.
  • For a 5:30 p.m. dinner seating, make reservations for September 25.
