ALMA Best Comedy Actress in Television Selena Gomez (AP Photo Dan Steinberg)
It was a glorious evening for two of the entertainment industry’s brightest young stars, Selena Gomez and David Archuleta, both garnering a coveted ALMA Award at Royce Auditorium in Los Angeles, September 17, 2009.
Archuleta, who also performed at the ceremony, received honors in the Male Music Rising Star category and Gomez was designated Best Comedy Actress in television for her portrayal of Alex Russo in the hit Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place.
Also picking up awards for their behind-the-scenes artistic contributions were “Twilight” hair stylist Mary Ann Valdes and makeup artist Jeanne Van Phue.
The ALMA’s, celebrates outstanding achievements of Latinos in the entertainment industry and this year’s show, “The 2009 ALMA Awards,” will be broadcast exclusively on the ABC Television Network Friday, September 18, 2009 at 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Congratulations David! I am a huge David Archuleta fan and am so happy David received this well deserved award. David is just an amazing singer/songwriter and has been working really hard this year touring and putting together a Christmas album that comes out on Oct. 13 - can't wait!

I saw David grow by leaps & bounds tonite. He even looked taller! He had such poise, charisma and charm and that voice was soooooo like butter. He has shown us his talent is boundless. I'm not a teen nor tween and I believe he is well on his way to becoming an international star.

David is an absolutely perfect singer. Sure hope that show was watched by all America and not just the Latino population. He has been a superstar in my eyes for so long, I want EVERYONE to be aware of his talent.
