On Tuesday, March 23, 2010, singer/songwriter/guitarist, Joanie Leeds marks a milestone with the dual release of her newest children’s music CD, I’m a Rock Star, and her full length DVD, City Kid Live.
Leeds, a very familiar face to children and parents on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with her concerts, classes and birthday parties, has developed a solid following and is often spotted by squealing kids who shout out, "There's Miss Joanieeeeeee! MISS JOANIEEEEEE!!!!."
Recently, Leeds’ following has expanded much farther from her New York City base and into the national spotlight as a Parent’s Choice Award-winning artist for her 2008 children’s music CD, City Kid, which is getting airplay around the country, and her placement as a finalist in the prestigious John Lennon Song Writing Contest for the title song on her new album, I’m a Rock Star.
Music has been a focus in Leeds’ life since her own toddler days, and when you watch her perform, it’s difficult to tell who has more fun – the kids or Leeds as she exudes energy and joy in sharing music with children. Leeds says, "It's like no other feeling in the world to know kids and adults alike appreciate the music I bring to them everyday!"
I’m a Rock Star successfully captures Leeds’ energy along with her versatility in balancing multiple music genres ranging from classic rock, folk, R & B and even Jazz. In the making of Rock Star, Leeds and her band, The Nightlights, set out to present a sophisticated sound for children. Leeds says, “I wanted everything to be fun and positive, but it was also important for me not to make musical compromises. Kids deserve no less than an authentic musical experience.”
