David Archuleta, the very talented 19-year old pop crooner, once again wowed his fans, during a half time performance at the Brut Sun Bowl Game between Oklahoma and Stanford on Thursday, December 31, 2009 in El Paso, Texas.
Playing to a sold out stadium crowd of 50,426 ticket holders, had brought Archuleta face-to-face with his largest audience ever, other than his television appearances on American Idol.
The Sun Bowl’s stadium was filled to capacity and tickets for the game had been snapped up almost as soon as they were made available. This was only the third time the in the stadium’s history that the venue has sold out since it was remodeled and expanded from 30,000 seats in 1983. More significantly, even in this tough economy, it was the first time in the stadium’s 76-year history that the game was sold out in advance of the actual game day.
The ABC Television Network affiliate station, KVIA, Channel 7 in El Paso captured (for their news broadcasts) not only an excerpt of Archuleta performing the cover of Journey's classic, “DON'T STOP BELIEVIN, ” but followed with a brief interview and a video of the after-performance meet and greet with his loyal fans.
For the half-time performance Archuleta also sang two other crowd-pleasers, his own composition “ZERO GRAVITY,” and,” CRUSH,” from his double platinum single.

David sounded great and thanks for the videos but I think he forgot about his concert in the Phillipines, the audience was well over 55000 people!
Hi Casey, thanks for stopping by! It's possible the shape of the venue maybe makes it appear larger - just a guess?
Casey, There were lots of attendance numbers bandied about, but I think the "official" count for Manila was around 40,000 plus according to tickets sold. But I know there was a lot of last minute standing room only tickets sold and lots of people outside the gates in the streets listening also, so the actual number might be around 55,000.
Didn't he say he's never sang any of "his" songs (Crush & Zero Gravity)for an audience of this size. I didn't take it to mean that he's never performed for a crowd this large before. I think the unofficial size of the Manilla concert was much larger than 51K. Thanks for the article.
Hi Randolph and Casey, Thanks both for weighing in on this! The 55,000 figure including persons outside the venue is probably closer to what actually occurred, but the 50,426 were for seat ticket sales only and audience members who had direct viewing. You're right Casey, David did say that this was the largest number that he has performed those two song for.

Thanks for the article about David Archuleta and the Sun Bowl. All of us David fans who couldn't attend the Sun Bowl were disappointed that CBS didn't televise any of his performaces, including "God Bless America & Star Spangled Banner". Thanks for putting the videos up of his performance. David Archuleta is such a great talent!!!

Paula, thanks so much for posting the videos of David's performance and the interview. All of us "fans of David" love to see anything and everything that pertains to David. He is such an amazing youngman, with a more amazing voice. He's the best! Even us "golden archies" love David Archuleta!
I'm one a big big fan of David Archuleta. I was watching this game, anticipating the half time show knowing it would not be shown but was led to believe one of the songs would be televised. Sadly, that wasn't the case. Thank you for the video clips and the article...I love everything about this young man.

Thanks for the great article and videos. By the way, even David forgets he performed for more than 50K people in his concert in Manila with David Cook. And apparently there were over 100K people on the grounds listening, although only 50K tickets were available to be sold.
