Any fan of fantasy will enjoy Brigitta of the White Forest, a middle grade fantasy adventure by Danika Dinsmore.

Brigitta is a young Water Faerie from the village-nest of Tiragarrow. She's anxious about going through The Change, as she doesn't see how destiny markings on her wings should determine her life's path. A few days before the annual Festival of the Elements, Brigitta is flying an errand with her tag-a-long sister when they notice a peculiar greyness to their friend's skin. They find their village to be completely still, no faeries flying in or out, which is strange since it's a time for celebration. Everywhere Brigitta looks there are frightened stone faeries: some in the stands, some on the ground, some hanging in the giant uul trees, some whole, some broken.

Brigitta must find out more about this mysterious curse that has turned everyone in the White Forest to stone, except for her and her sister. And Brigitta doesn't have much time. The Hourglass of Protection keeps the white forest protected and it's up to the elders to make sure it's just right every season-cycle. Brigitta doesn’t know exactly what will happen when the Hourglass runs out since no living faerie has known a time when the Hourglass hasn’t protected the forest by keeping the elements balanced and harmful beasts at bay. And even though she can't remember the details, she does know that without the Hourglass there will be no White Forest. But with the elders all turned to stone, there is no one to reset the hourglass.

So Brigitta and her sister set off an adventure to turn the Elders back to normal. The girls jump at every rustle, every throaty growl, and every flying beast that crosses their path, but they eventually encounter an exiled faerie named Hrathgar. Can Brigitta trust her to help, despite all of the ancient tales she's heard about this faerie committing a horrible act?

Dinsmore creates a winning character in Brigitta. As Brigitta of Tiragarrow leads us on a journey over twisted roots, snapping plants, and dangerous beasts, she also unravels her destiny. Fully imagined, this is a radiant first novel full of faeries zipping in and out of adventure.
