Debut children’s author Mary Jo Reinhart brings to life lovable hat maker, Grinelda in her book “Grinelda the Mad Hatter” published by Gumboot Books.
Grinelda has a serious penchant for making outlandish hats and arrives at school every morning sporting a new creation. While adults find Grinelda’s hats charming, her school chums take a decidedly negative view of her eccentricities. But when Mrs. Riley, their teacher, announces plans for the school play, Cinderella, things change for Grinelda. Recognizing Grinelda’s creativity Mrs. Riley makes her costume designer for the play. The “three stepsisters” openly scorn Grinelda’s talents but before too long they are secretly seeking Grinelda’s aid.
Grinelda’s story illustrates the beauty of staying true to who you are, standing out in the crowd and being creative. Grinelda comes alive in the eye-catching artwork, by fabric artist Paula Nathan. The book is a great read for children ages 4 to 10.
Both Mary Jo and Paula live in northern Illinois and are currently promoting the book by author signings and school visits.
