The Sibley Guide to Trees by David Allen Sibley is not specifically a children’s book but while discussing books to celebrate Arbor Day this is also a wonderful time to talk about family involvement and activities. The Sibley Guide to Trees book is one of the best books available to get the entire family doing something together. With this guide families can work together identifying trees in their own yard, neighborhood, or why not a trip to local parks or nature spots around Lansing to see what trees you can find.
In the introduction section of The Sibley Guide to Trees you will get a beginners lesson on basic tree identification: leaves, buds, flowers, bark and more. Sibley’s artwork in the book is unsurpassed making it easy for children and parents to identify trees. The book is laid out so related species are grouped together; over 600 trees are depicted and the over 4,000 illustrations in The Sibley Guide to Trees offer hours of fun and learning combined for all ages.
The Sibley Guide to Trees is available at the following Capital Area District Library locations in and around Lansing: Holt, Lansing, Mason, Okemos, South Lansing, and Stockbridge.
