Memorial Day by Christin Ditchfield children's book review

Memorial Day’ by Christin Ditchfield is one of the best books around for giving children factual information about Memorial Day. Like all of the children’s books in the True Books series ‘Memorial Day’ includes information such as how the holiday began, an insight into ‘The United States at War’ and exciting stories such why President Lincoln grew a beard making the book not just a history lesson but interesting.

Two other great features found in ‘Memorial Day’ and other True Books is the sections giving children information on other recommended books to read on the topic. The other section gives internet links to web sites where even more information related to Memorial Day like Arlington National Cemetery http://www.arlingtoncemetery.org and The History Channel http://www.historychannel.com/exhibits/memorial

The text is easy to read and recommended for ages 9-12 but I found my seven year old grandson read ‘Memorial Day’ with some assistance and the bright real photographs interested my four year old grand-daughter.

You can find ‘Memorial Day’ at the Holt, Lansing, and Okemos branches of the Capital Area District Library, Barnes & Noble and Schuler book stores, or online at Amazon here: Memorial Day (True Books)

The more books like this, the better our children will learn the sacrifices Americans have made.
