Children's Book Review of Gilbert, the Surfer Dude by Diane deGroat

“Gilbert, the Surfer Dude” by Diane deGroat is a lighthearted fun read for children. The story starts with Gilbert and his family taking a trip to the beach but there are some problems to be solved along the way. First, Gilbert forgets his bathing suit then Lola is afraid of the water. Gilbert finds swim trunks at the store though with the words ‘Surfer Dude’ printed on them but they are too big for him and the laughter begins.

Recommended reading for K-3 it was an easy read for a 1st grader and even adults get a giggle over what happens to Gilbert in his oversized bathing suit. Both the story and the artwork are a delight to the reader.
