Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah - Microsoft Corporation photo
Today is the 5th night of Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. Last week we discussed some children’s books to read and share about the history, traditions and current customs of the Hanukkah celebrations. Today is the beginning of the “Tuesday for Twos” part of this Children’s Books Examiner page. Literacy from a young age is very important; this includes interaction, communication and music, all of which shape language skills in young children.
The book chosen for this Tuesday for Twos is Susan Roth’s Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah. Its pasted paper collage artwork is very detailed and the rhyming text, lyrics from the song, are quick and simple; if you are musically inclined you can sing the song with expression and clapping, a perfect activity for little ones and twos. The song is cheerful, quick and active. if you need help check out this website for the music and if you really need help The Barenaked Ladies’ version has music and lyrics.
Enjoy the rest of your Hanukkah celebration, don’t forget to include your ones and twos in the history, reading and celebration – they will surly love it. It is a time of joy, gladness and dedication. So gather round sing, and dance the hora. Happy Hanukkah!
