A bored Chihuahua can be a destructive Chihuahua

Chihuahuas most times are so active; the last thing we want is for them to get bored. Even at that little size, that is when they can become destructive and also get into undesirable and toxic items. We as pet parents want to provide fun activities that are safe and pleasurable as well as educational for our beloved canine family members.

The last thing you want is to come up to chewed up shoes, slippers, shelves, books or anything else that the pooch can get a hold of. By giving your dog challenging toys that can keep him actively engaged, you can keep your pup happy and spare your footwear and household items. Along with all the mere necessities of owning a dog, it is imperative to provide ample chew toys that challenge your dog, especially when left alone.

There are many toys available where you can place a treat inside, providing your dog hours of fun trying to get to the “reward”. This challenge keeps dogs thinking, and reduces the temptation to release their energy in less desirable ways.

Many dogs are motivated by food, but don't be discouraged if yours isn't. Simply being able to engage in a satisfying activity such as chewing is enough to keep many dogs happy, busy and out of trouble.

Having several different types of chew and puzzle toys is the best option, rotating between them daily and weekly. Just as humans can get bored with the same thing all the time, dogs can as well. When you rotate the toys, it is like having a new toy all the time.

We have a Chi named Fred and we truly believe he is demon possessed. He has destroyed everything in our home, punishment by cage don't work. He has destroyed carpet, my dentures, my glasses, my hearing aids, a host of plastic plates and bowls. We are senior citizens and love Fred to death but we are a wits end. There is a animal rescue here locally but they stay full and have no vacancies, we refuse to take him to a animal shelter ran by the city. We are afraid someone will get him and be abusive to him or worse they will put him down. If you have any suggestions for us we would appreciate it so much. I might mention he is good with people, other dogs, and cats, he is so lovable but he is also destructive.
