Bulls waive Rob Kurz and Chris Richard

  • June 30th, 2010 1:19 pm CT

The Chicago Bulls announced today that forwards Rob Kurz and Chris Richard have been waived.

Kurz (6-9, 230), 25, signed with the Bulls as a free agent on April 9, 2010. He did not make an appearance in a Bulls uniform during his time with the team.

The soft-shooting Notre Dame forward appeared in 40 games for the Golden State Warriors during the 2008-09 season.

Richard (6-9, 256), 25, played in 18 games last season with Chicago and averaged 2.1 ppg, 3.3 rpg and 12.4 mpg.

Richard was drafted in the second round of the 2007 draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves after winning two national titles with Florida Gators teammate and current Bulls center, Joakim Noah.

Both players should be on the Bulls Summer League roster.

I guess I just don't understand the way the Bulls think. Neither gut was costing them any cap space, so why waive them? I thought Richard didn't look bad at all.

I believe there is still a chance that both of them end back up with the team through their Summer League play. I don't understand the reasoning in waiving them either, especially since I thought they would hold onto Richard and they haven't gotten a chance to see what Kurz can do with this team. He could be a very valuable shooter off the bench.

We'll just have to see how things go.
