Vartan on right, employee on left
Kirk Vartan, owner of A Slice of New York, just celebrated 3 years of success with his pizza parlor. On that Saturday, free luscious canolis were served to customers, pizza was on extreme discount, and raffles were going on amidst the endless ingoing and outgoing customers.
With such a bustling little restaurant, Vartan should have much to be proud of. So, he kindly made the time to answer some questions and comment on his recent anniversary’s event.
Question: “Did you have more customers than usual on your anniversary?”
Answer: “Yes, today was a very busy day…all day. I think it was probably our busiest day to date. I brought in extra people in preparation for that, though… I wanted to have enough staff, so no one was waiting. We had lots of fresh pies all day.”
Q: “Were you satisfied with the outcome of your anniversary?”
A: “Yes…absolutely! I saw tons of regulars that I haven’t seen in a very long time and got to meet a bunch of new people. Everyone was so supportive of us. We had people saying that they couldn’t believe it had already been three years and others that thought we’d been there for like ten years! Our customers are wonderful and make this business worth every minute!”
Q: “How much planning was involved in preparing for your anniversary?”
A: “Not much planning actually. I had the banner made and that was conceived on Tuesday and done by Thursday. Our sign guy is awesome (Tom Colla of Colla Signs over on Martha in SJ). We planned for the drawing, but that entailed a can to hold all the receipts. While we really didn’t have any specific plan of attack, I was confident our very capable team would be able to roll with it. I did post the anniversary on our Facebook page and our Yelp review page two weeks prior to the date, but that’s about it. Oh, we hung a few signs in the shop this week to let our customers know.”
Q: “Besides myself, did any other publisher cover your event?”
A: “I do not believe so. We did not advertise or announce on anything, although someone did come in saying they were tweeted!”
Q: “Were you happy with the overall outcome of your anniversary?”
A: “110% yes. This was our way of thanking our customers for supporting us over the past three years and letting them know how much they mean to us. We had so many people congratulating us and thanking us for doing this.”
Q: “Is there anything you would like your customers to know about the event or yourself?”
A: “We want our customers to know how much we care about them and how much we want to support them. We have also heard from them how much they want us to open a second place and we have been looking all over, from Santa Clara to Sunnyvale to Mountain View to San Jose to Campbell to where ever. If any of our customers know of a good place for us to open a second location, they need to let us know. We’ve been looking for 1.5 years and nothing has been right.”

Comments
I attended this event and it was actually my first visit to A Slice of New York. I was quite pleased and will definitely be going back.
Thank you for the review! My husband and I will definitely give this place a try. He, too, is from New York!
