Cajun/Creole fare at Gumbo A Go-Go in Palatine

Once you’ve been to New Orleans, you’ll find the craving for Creole and Cajun food hoist its hot, little head every now and then, Mardi Gras time, summer, fall or winter.

That’s why it’s not so surprising to note an Irish accent (County Limerick, btw) when culinary alchemist/owner Patrick Reardon asks you if you prefer “spicy” or “mild” as he hands out samples of dynamite NOLA fare at Gumbo A Go-Go in Palatine
.
His Irish eyes smiled upon the Crescent City for around 10 years of horse racing seasons during which he trained the magnificent beasts and harvested recipes and culinary chops from New Orleans’ natives.

Located a few steps from the Palatine Metra station, Gumbo A Go-Go sports whimsical murals of the French Quarter and Mardi Gras beads strewn about the small dining area. The outdoor patio, with seating for 20, is not only comfy for humans, it's tres dog friendly. In fact, show up any Wednesday from 5-8 pm for Haute Dog Happy Hour when a percentage of the till goes to a different animal rescue shelter each week.

It’s all here - authentic gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice and the lightest cornbread you’ve ever lifted to your lips. Reardon’s peach or pear cobbler and bread pudding may be better than what you’ll get in the deep South.

A real winner- and by more than a nose!

Outdoor patio; catering; dog friendly; WiFi; dine in and carry out; curbside pickup
