As I learned from the DC Education Blog, Anacostia High School, which has failed to meet AYP for five consecutive years, is being turned over to Friendship Public Charter School. According to DCPS Chancellor Michele Rhee she selected Friendship because the charter has:
"expertise and experience in turning around low-performing schools in order to meet performance standards as effectively and as quickly as possible."
This is especially interesting because of the five schools now controlled by Friendship not one made AYP in 2008 (for one school AYP was non applicable.)
Perhaps Miss Rhee should have looked here or here for new management.

Mark--I am by no stretch an expert on DC schools. But I must say I am thrilled that you pointed at lists which include some of the excellent charters in Colorado.
Very interesting
Not only did Ms. Rhee pick the wrong school. She was informed by mail about the illegal actions of Friendship Public Charter Schools. The current principal of Anacostia was a principal of another Friendship school in Baltimore. He broke all types of laws and asked teachers to lie about student achievement. Here's the thing, Michelle Rhee knew or her office was informed prior to the selection of FPCS to turnaround Anacostia. Dr. Ian Roberts sabotaged teachers careers, he held invalid end of the year assessments, He violated FAPE, FERPA, NCLB and IDEA. This information was being reported to the Gov. O'Malley, Mayor Dixon and Mayor Rawlings-Blake, the city council, Dr. Andres Alonso, Elijah Cummings, Nancy S. Grasmick and Attorney General Gansler. Instead of the teacher being assisted, the teacher was attacked by all of the above. Additionally, Marietta English, the president of the Baltimore Teachers Union works with BCPS to get rid of teachers that bring forth this kind of information. Dr. Ian Roberts has business in Baltimore that he has to correct. Asking teachers to change grades only changes paperwork!
