Congressional Democrats caught trying to kill D.C.'s voucher program

The editors of the Washington Post have looked into the 2009 omnibus spending bill in the process of being passed by Congress and found that the Washington, D.C.'s Opportunity Scholarship Program is in danger of being terminated by the party of the people.  They write:

Democrats have never liked vouchers, and it seems they won't let fairness or the interests of low-income, minority children stand in the way of their politics. But it also seems they're too ashamed -- and with good reason -- to admit to what they're doing.

The issue is that language added by Democrats to the spending bill call for Congress to reauthorize the program for the 2011 - 2012 school year before any more money can be allocated.  But the odds of passing such a reauthorization before this coming September, when applications for the following term need to be accepted, is virtually zero.

I guess the President doesn't want his kids at Sidwell Friends to attend school with poor people.
