Raising a child to be a giving and caring adult in a society that seems more intent than ever on rewarding selfish behavior is no easy job for a parent. With that in mind, these three organizations are setting out to prove that kids really do want to make a difference in their community and ultimately in the world.

The banner that hanged in Sarah Hernholm's classroom read "Whatever It Takes" as a reminder to everyone that entered that there was not anything they could not do if they put their mind to it. Seeing the kids take this to heart inspired Sarah to take this slogan and the feeling behind it to a broader audience. In 2009 Witkids.org became official and the program is wasting no time taking their message across the globe. Already in California school children are collecting coins and putting on talent shows to raise money to help bring water to a girl's school in East Africa.

In San Antonio, Texas, Witkids.org has paired with DinnerGarden.org and later this month kids will assembly hundreds of packages of seeds that will be distributed throughout the country. This is just one small step in their larger mission to eradicate hunger worldwide.

Witkids.org is looking to expand to every household and classroom. If your child is looking to get involved in his or her community, contact Sarah and she and the WitKid.org team will help your child get started.

Besides sponsoring volunteering opportunities for children, Kids Are Heroes highlights children and teens across the country making a difference. A visit to their Website makes one keenly aware that kids are capable of making an impact when given the tools to do it. Currently, Kids Are Heroes is seeking out people across the United States to spread the word about their mission. If you interested in becoming a Kids Are Heroes Ambassador or know of a Kid Hero follow this link for more information.

In Austin, Texas the organization Little Helping Hands encourages volunteering as a family regardless of the age of your kids. By sponsoring events and making parents aware of other local child friendly volunteer opportunities, Little Helping Hands is making a difference in Austin one family at a time. Recently hosting a clean up of Bull Run Park, Little Helping Hands brought together 15 families with children ages two to 13 managing to collect over 20 bags of garbage. Gearing up for a busy spring and summer season, Little Helping Hands welcomes new families and encourages them to learn more at their Website.

These fine organizations are just a few that can open the world of social responsibility for your child. Encourage them to cross that threshold and you will be doing your part as a parent to put out into the world a person who gives more than they take and how great is that?
