A Pro-Life Ted Kennedy Supported Personhood in the 1970s
Washington, D.C. - In 1971, Senator Ted Kennedy wrote a letter to his constituents expressing devout pro-life sentiments, in line with his Catholic Beliefs.
"While the deep concern of a woman bearing an unwanted child merits consideration and sympathy, it is my personal feeling that the legalization of abortion on demand is not in accordance with the value which our civilization places on human life. Wanted or unwanted, I believe that human life, even at its earliest stages, has certain rights which must be recognized - the right to be born, the right to love, the right to grow old."
Later, he supported Personhood legislation, agreeing that from the moment of conception, all human beings are people. In April 1976, Kennedy supported Senate Joint Resolution 178 to define personhood as beginning at conception, which was sponsored by Sen. Jesse Helms and John Pastore.
"What went wrong? What could lead someone to deny their faith, contributing to deaths of millions?" questioned Keith Mason, of Personhood USA. "Ted Kennedy's slide to pro-abortion politics, along with other politicians who originally supported personhood, are proof that once you repudiate the personhood of an preborn child, it is not too far a fall to utter depravity in deeming the killing of children an acceptable practice. If the preborn human is not a person, then abortion does not matter."

Comments
It is amazing how people can change over the years, from being one that supports life to one that supports taking life.
I think everyone is missing the "elephant" in the prolife living room.Bush 1, and Ronald Reagan, were both open pro aborts before they wanted to get elected into national politics. Mr. reagan was the one who signed abortion on demand legal in California in 1967. That is 6 years before Roe. Ain't it funny how the Rep, and NRTL, adopted the perpetual failed stratigy of incremental legislation that appeased the pro-life vote, but at the end of the day, allows womb children to be slaughtered. If one can not see that pro-life has been sold a bill of goods, is most assuredly willingly blind.
