Oceans Apart is a unique pair of musical talents named John Good and Steve Colby. Steve is an American, John comes from Wales, so they are "oceans apart" in their backgrounds, but they are united in their love of Celtic music, specializing in songs and tunes of Wales, Ireland and Scotland, performed in their own unique style.
Steve plays mostly stringed instruments, having taken up the banjo at an early age, but he often plays guitar in performance, switching to bouzouki as well. His fine baritone voice forms the base of many of the songs done by the duo, and he is true to his philosophy that the lyrics come first, carrying the soul of the music.
John is also a talented vocalist, adding a higher harmony that blends so well with his partner, but his expertise on wind instruments is phenomenal. Whistlle, flute, harmonica, even Welsh bagpipes are things of beauty and poetry in his capable hands.
Oceans Apart has played the Colorado Scottish Festival three years in a row, and Steve's hope that they'll continue to be invited certainly resonates with their fans. Check out their music, you'll agree.
