Celebrity Weight Loss 101: How to shape up like Michelle Obama?

When Michelle Obama recently revealed her shapely legs in short shorts, as well as those much-discussed perfect arms, there were more "what was she thinking" comments than when Britney Spears went commando. Unlike with Britney, however, even more wanted to know the secret diet plan or weight loss program that has graced our nation with such a fit and fabulous First Lady.

The secret weight loss and diet plan? As Michelle Obama told Oprah recently, it's not magic.  She makes sure that the entire Presidential family focuses on eating right, including eliminating junk food from their diets. The result:  the ability to look chic in shorts.  In addition, the First Lady revealed that she puts her body through early morning workouts on a daily basis, including the regular use of her treadmill.

Lisa Avellino, who has worked with professional athletes, TV personalities, and celebrities, is the Fitness Expert for www.Focus28.com. Referring to Michelle Obama, Lisa says that "balance and symmetry" are the keys to that fabulous figure.

"The First Lady's muscle tone can be described as sleek," Lisa notes. To sculpt your arms like Michelle Obama's, the trainer recommends lighter weights, with more repetitions. In general, Lisa suggests beginning with two-pound weights, then gradually increasing to five pound weights. In addition, "it is important to stretch and incorporate a variety of movements such as yoga and Pilates
which will work your whole body. A fusion of movement and technique is key."

Lisa credits Michelle Obama's perfect posture as contributing to her overall shapely figure. "Good posture and a balanced body comes from doing cardio, strength training, flexibility training and balance exercises," Lisa says. "For example, a great core exercise is standing on one leg and doing bicep curls with light weights at the same time. Rather than working just one muscle, full body integration is more effective."

Thanks for the article, she is fabulous and it's nice to see someone point that out rather than the ridiculous criticism that I've seen so much of elsewhere.

On the morning show cbs they did a story on the fact that Michelle was wearing shorts and compared her to other first lady's. We should be celebrating the fact that Michelle is finally updating the image of first lady and showing that women must maintain wellness, family fitness and a beautiful and sleek physique!

I think these comments should be about communication to the writer and about the contents of the article-not about solicitation from weight loss brands-

You call those "short shorts"?! You've got to be kidding! Short-shorts have an inseam length of about 2 inches. Or less.

Michelle's shorts are "middle-aged-folks" shorts. Or maybe old folks' shorts--they're the length I'm wearing now, at 67.

Not that this is as bad as repeating that our Prisoners of War (Global War on Being Really Frightened + prisoners taken and imprisoned during that war = Prisoners of War) are "detainees" or "illegal enemy combatants" or "people who hate us for our 'freedom' " (what freedom? what privacy? when the NSA has tapped into virtually every digital telecommunications stream in the nation since oh, about 2002).

But it certainly is just another bit of inaccurate reportage that fails to take into account "the reality sphere," common sense, the dictionary, etc.

What I like about Michelle Obama is that she is a real person - you can tell that she genuinely cares about her children and husband and the nation! And I love that she is self-confident enough to show off her great figure. This is interesting to read about ideas for getting in shape like her.
