Where does Johnny Depp vacation? On his own island, of course!

Johnny Depp owns a 45-acre private island near The Bahamas

In an interview with Douglas Brinkley for the July 2009 issue of Vanity Fair, Johnny Depp reveals his favorite vacation spot -- his own 45-acre island in the Caribbean called Little Hall's Pond Cay. Depp purchased the island in 2004 for $3.6 million. 

To get to the island, Depp flies into Nassau in The Bahamas and then sails his 156-foot yacht 60 nautical miles to the southeast. He named his ship, the Vajoliroja, by taking the first two letters of the first names of each member of his family: his long-time companion, Vanessa Paradis; himself; his 10-year old daughter, Lily Rose; and his 7-year-old son, Jack.

Depp views the island as his way of escaping all the pressures and superficiality of Hollywood. "Little Hall's Pond is my decompression. It's my way of trying to return to normalcy," Depp explains.

Depp has named the six different beaches on Little Hall's Pond after personal connections: Paradis, Gonzo, Brando, Lily Rose, Jack and Utility. Gonzo and Brando refer to Depp's two late mentors: Hunter S. Thompson and Marlon Brando. There is also a section of water he named "Heath's Place" after the late Heath Ledger.

Once on the island, the way to get around is with golf carts. The island is powered by solar energy. In Johnny's opinion, the only thing missing on the island is Guiness beer on tap.

Depp owns five other homes including a villa in Provence, France and a home in Los Angeles which was once owned by Bela Lugosi. Depp just finished filming The Rum Diary in Puerto Rico where he again plays Hunter S. Thompson. Depp portrays notorious criminal John Dillinger in his latest film Public Enemies which opens in theaters on July 1.
