Sneak preview of Give Peace A Chance exhibit to be held May 12 in New York City

will be on display at a sneak preview party and benefit in New York City on May 12

This month marks the 40th anniversary of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Bed-In for Peace which took place from May 26 to June 2, 1969 in Montreal, Canada, and it is also the 40th anniversary of the song "Give Peace A Chance." On May 12, get a sneak preview in New York City of select unpublished photos of John and Yoko at the Bed-in for Peace before a major exhibition opens at The Museum At Bethel Woods in upstate New York.

 

The photos are from a new book called "Give Peace A Chance: John and Yoko's Bed-In for Peace" by Joan Athey which features never before seen photos by Gerry Deiter, a Life magazine journalist who was the only man to chronicle the entire Montreal Bed-in.

 

Author Joan Athey will be hosting the "Give Peace A Song" cabaret at the Gershwin hotel on East 27th street (at 5th avenue) on Tuesday, May 12 at 8 pm. Athey will be reading from her new book. There will be live music featuring artist/musician Neke Carson, guitar legend Gary Lucas and composer Steven Lynch.

 

There will also be a silent auction of select prints from the book to raise money for 60s writer Paul Williams, the founder of Crawdaddy Magazine, who is suffering from dementia. In 1968, Paul Williams served as campaign manager for Timothy Leary’s run for the governorship of California, during which time he and Leary joined John Lennon and Yoko Ono at the “Bed-in For Peace”. Paul’s voice can be heard mixed into the chorus on the original recording of “Give Peace A Chance”, which was recorded on June 1, 1969 in John and Yoko's hotel room.

 

The event is free. There will also be a drawing for book prizes.
