Fans in Romania crowd around a memorial erected for Michael Jackson in Bucharest

As a testament to the lasting legacy of Michael Jackson, fans around the world (including those who may not even understand the lyrics of Jackson's songs because they don't speak English) gathered together on Saturday, August 29, to celebrate what would have been Michael Jackson's 51st birthday.

In Romania, a crowd gathered around a memorial which was unveiled that day in Herastrau park in Bucharest. In addition, one of the park's main alleys was named the Michael Jackson Alley.
In Paris, fans danced in front of the Eiffel Tower. In Moscow, fans dressed like zombies to mimic the characters in Michael Jackson's music video, Thriller. In India, a dance institute performed to songs of Michael Jackson in New Delhi.
These worldwide celebrations exemplify the global reach of Michael Jackson's popularity. The world will have a chance to come together again to celebrate Michael Jackson at the global tribute concert, "The Tribute in Memory of Michael Jackson", organized by his brother, Jermaine, to be held in Vienna, Austria on September 26.
