Big Voice with an even bigger heart picture by Maja Gartmann
Petite with a powerhouse voice, Laura is taking over the world with charm, beauty and style. Her debut single's title is any “fashionista’s” nightmare “I don’t’ have a thing to wear”.
Two years later this girl from Mount Airy, Maryland transformed into a country-rock-style goddess. At her recent performance at the House of Blues she not only found things to wear, she rocked the house in the tightest pants imaginable, highest-heeled boots and a fitted corset jacket that puts every Victorian woman’s waist to shame. Her jewelry harkens back to the 80’s when Madonna was sporting various chains in various forms around her neck. What distinguishes Laura’s take on that look is that she replaced the crucifixes with a big sparkling heart.
There is way more to Laura than a big voice, style and beauty, this country girl is involved with numerous charities. Laura’s love affair with country rmusic started while listening to country radio during long drives to a Washington, D.C., hospital to visit her brother, who was in a six-month coma following a brain aneurysm.
During her visits to the hospital Laura encountered various volunteers and even celebrities visiting kids on behalf of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It inspired her to become a tireless supporter of that foundation and an urge to support various charities and causes. “Trying to be Me”’, is a song dedicated to the heroics of men and women in the military service who sacrifice at home and overseas for their country. Her song “Make a whish” is dedicated to her love for the Make-a-whish foundation. Her latest single “Hometown Heroes” is dedicated to the Air Guard and the military, for which she’s also the national spokesperson.
This summer Laura launched “America’s Search for Hometown Heroes," where she was looking for everyday men and women giving back in big ways. Sharon Whitson, Cindy Simmons, Cathy Cloutier, Rebecca McCormick and Ron Regen all share one thing in common: they are the lucky five’ Hometown Heroes’ who were chosen and flown in to Los Angeles to be honored during a special concert event at the House of Blues. “It’s especially exciting to be honoring such a wonderful group of selfless, giving American heroes,” says Bryna of the contest winners. “They’re helping hundreds of people every day and doing it because they love to give back and feel it’s the right thing to do.” Laura is also doing the right thing every day and is a wonderful hero with a big heart.

Saw the show and this is so right on. What a voice and what a good looking woman! She rocked a packed house. I couldn't believe a big voice could come from that small body. I loved her rendition of Paul Simon's Slip Slidin Away. Cool version with the bluesy notes and background vocals. Great band. She was so nice to come over and visit with everyone at the Andaz after the show.
I love Laura, great article!
