BOJANA NOVAKOVIC

Not much is known about actress Bojana Novakovic, but thanks to her exposure in Mel Gibson’s 2010 thriller Edge of Darkness, people are starting to ask.

Born in Serbia in 1981, Bojana Novakovic moved to Australia with her parents in 1988.  While she early on had a desire to become a doctor or a social worker, she later fell in love with acting so she could become “a princess like Grace Kelly.”  At age twelve she appeared in her first play; at fifteen, her first film.

Bojana studied at Sydney’s The McDonald College – she was Dux (valedictorian) of 1998.  She also attended Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Arts, and graduated from there in 2002.

Her theater credits include Criminology, Eldorado, The Female of the Species, Death Variations, Loveplay, Away, and Romeo and Juliet.  She also stared in The Tamarama Rock Surfers production of Gogol’s Diary of a Madman.  Among her Hungarian and Australian television credits are Heartbreak High (1998), Wildside (1998), Murder Call (1999), Water Rats (2000), The Cooks (2004), and Satisfaction (2009).

In 2003, Bojana appeared as Randa in the ABC miniseries Marking Time – the role would win her an AFI Best Actress Award.

Bojana’s film appearances include Blackrock (1997), Strange Fits of Passion (1999), The Monkey’s Mask (2000), Thunderstruck (2004), Solo (2006), and the Serbian film Optimisti (2006).  American audiences began to take notice when Bojana made small appearances in Will Smith’s Seven Pounds (2008 - uncredited), Sam Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell (2009), and Mel Gibson’s Edge of Darkness (2010).

Whatever the charming, talented, and achingly lovely actress does next, this writer sees big things ahead.
