Water crisis: Tiger Woods, Grant Hill, Dwight Howard among Florida's worst guzzlers

The Orlando Sentinel wants you to know that Tiger Woods, Grant Hill and Dwight Howard are water hogs.

Tiger used 107,000 gallons of water at his Orange County, Fla., home in April. Grant used 263,000 gallons in May and Dwight used 189,000 gallons in July at their Florida homes.

Don't they care about the water crisis?

Most households use less than 10,000 gallons and pay average water bills of $20 per month. Tiger, Grant and Dwight are paying around $1000 per month and sometimes more, the Sentinel reports.

"Somebody ought to go to those people and say, 'I know money doesn't mean anything to you, but water means something to us,' " said Jake Varn, a Tallahassee lawyer who specializes in water issues and former director of Florida's environmental agency.

Tiger Woods is near the top of the list of 25 biggest guzzlers in Orange County. But that's not the worst of it. He also owns a large estate in Martin County, where he used 1.3 million gallons of water in January, according to the Sentinel. Since then, he has averaged more than a half-million gallons of water each month.

Utility officials said much of that water has been for new and extensive landscaping.

Tiger's rep said that he is trying "to conserve this natural resource." Is he kidding? More than a half-million gallons a month is conserving?

We love Tiger, but really, can he maybe think about cutting back on water use like the rest of us?

What should be done to convince him?
