Is there really an Oscar curse?
Just ask the past winners of the Best Actress Oscar. Almost every winner over the past decade has broken up with her longtime love after winning the Academy Award for Best Actress.
In 2001, Julia Roberts won, and then broke up with Benjamin Bratt. Both of them are now married to other people. Halle Berry won in 2002 and soon split from husband Eric Benet over talk of his cheating. Charlize Theron broke up with longtime partner Stuart Townsend (who directed her in Battle in Seattle), this year after winning the Best Actress statue for Monster. Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe divorced in 2006 following her win for Million Dollar Baby. Reese Witherspoon won for her role in Walk the Line, then lost hubby Ryan Phillippe less than a year later.
In surprising recent news, Kate Winslet, last year's winner, has split from her husband, director Sam Mendes. And with rumors swirling of Jesse James' infidelity, Sandra Bullock may be struck with the Oscar curse next. It would be truly sad, as her nod to James in her acceptance speech was touching and heartfelt. James, for his part, looked just as teary-eyed at Bullock's win as she was.

Think about ppl with longtime partners - they are probably "comfortable" with them, and this type of scrutiny (that of winning the coveted Best Actress Oscar) pushes the cozy couple out of that zone, hence both parties don't know quite how to react no matter how level-headed or put together either may seem. Chasms ultimately ensue...just seems to be the way of the Modern couple (driven by the force of a more modern woman).
