Twitter is teaming up with TV producers for a reality show based on following celebrities who tweet.

Twitter is teaming up with TV producers to develop an interactive reality show where contestants stalk *trail* celebrities using Twitter. "Stalk" is not a term they use, of course. In a joint statement, producers announced Monday that the show will feature "ordinary people put on the trail of celebrities in a competitive format," according to a report in Variety. One of the show's producers, Brillstein Entertainment's Jon Liebman, said:
"We've found a compelling way to bring the immediacy of Twitter to life on TV."
They didn't say what that "compelling way" would be, but we're guessing it could go something like this: On March 21, when Ashton Kutcher (aplusk) tweeted a photo of "wifey" Demi Moore (mrskutcher) pressing his tuxedo in a bikini, could contestants have figured out — just using Twitter — that he and Demi were in the Turks and Caicos islands getting ready for Bruce Willis and Emma Heming's private wedding?
They could have if they were following Brucey_Willis — if he really is Bruce. Is he?
Well, you get the picture.
And, soon, so will everyone else who watches TV.
Amy Ephron will be the show's executive producer, along with Reveille's Mark Koops and Brillstein Entertainment's Jon Liebman. Reveille produces "The Office" and "Ugly Betty." Brillstein did "The Sopranos."
** IMPORTANT UPDATE: This story has generated a massive response on Twitter from people who do not want a reality TV show to destroy the free flow of communication they have enjoyed on Twitter. We agree with them one hundred percent. That's why we used the hypothetical example in this story as a possible scenario we would hate to see. The show's producers have not said that this is how it would play out. As of this writing, they have not yet provided any details about the new show.

I would hope they don't encourage people to stalk. This can't possibly be safe and there should be a law against something like that.
I hope this isn't true! I would never support a show like this! Don't ruin something that isn't broken. Twitter has been an asset to fans wanting to speak with celebs and to get an inside look into their personalities. Ashow like this is a huge violation of Celebrities rights. I promise it will have a negative effect on Twitter...between both celebs and fans alike. Celbs will monitor what they say...who they speak to...or just delete their accounts all together. It's a huge violation of their pe
I hope that this doesn't happen. Celebrities deal with enough BS and this completely crosses the line!!
BOOO! Leave these guys alone. This type of show just encourages insanity. I give it a huge thumbs down.

I feel guilty "snooping" on peoples facebook pages, this is just not right.
This is so sad. Why does forms of peronal entertainment like Twitter have to make it all about the $$$? There is more to life than money. And in the end, you can't take it with you anyway.
While we would love to see into the lives of celebrities, it is not right to invade their personal lives and exploit them like this TV show intends to do. Those of us that enjoy chatting with these people will be the ones to suffer as this show and ones like it will force celebrities not to trust any of us.
totally a stupid idiot idea
this isnt right. i mean we finally get to know a little bit about what goes on in the lives off people we admire and now you want to stalk them. that stupid we are lucky enough to get the info that they are letting us know and now with this they will more than likely stop twittering altogether. And should people that work in the business try and protect the privacy of their fellow workers instead of exploiting them. Ugh people dont make any sense!
I agree with Melody. Celebrities are already putting themselves out there by allowing us to follow them on twitter. A show like this would definately ruin it for everyone. Only completely psycho fans would watch which would cause potential danger to celebrities and ruin the luxury we have now. I think you will find that most people would agree.
I hope this does not happen. This is an invasion of their privacy and those of us that have been able to chat with these celebrities and make friends will be the ones to suffer just because there may be some money to be made.
will not watch i like twitter just fine the way it is
another bs "reality" show? That's not what twitter was meant for and it will drive everone away. Stalkerazzi's need to get a life!
This is the stupidest thing to ever be thought of. How would that even be interesting. Leave them alone. No one needs to know what celebrities are doing every second of everyday. They are just ordinary people except their lives just happen to be public. Nothing interesting. Get over it.
Lame
this show is FAIL so terrible you actually encourage people to stalk others???
might as well say goodbye to twitter if this goes ahead. not cool
This is ridiculous. Thanks for scaring all of the celebs away and ruining Twitter for the sane people who would never do this.
THIS SUCKS!! It will ruin Twitter for Celebs & fans alike. We enjoy following some celebs, we don't need some stupid reality show ruining it for us all.
Celebs have had a HUGE part in making twitter what it is today and now they are going to turn and stab them in the back. This would be a great way for twitter to fall from popularity as fast as it grew!
oh no! this'll make the celebs drop from the twitter 'trees' like nobody's business I am sure!! say it isn't so!
Totally rediculous but just like the media, exploit people and chase them away! Vultures that just what you are! Leave these people alone, they are real human beings and you dont need to try and make money off people who keep it real!
wooo reality TV show???? haha when'?? :)
Get a life - we tweets will shut down our accounts or block them- celebrity or common Joe/Jane or not! Quit invading the good wholesome things we have!! I strongly hope that this BS is not true!!
BAD IDEA! Leave the celebs alone.
Bad idea. I've just gotten back in the game of interacting with people and I love Twitter. Please don't ruin it with another stupid reality show.
Please back off this idea - you twits
No go... Horrible idea. There are enough stalkers out there, why would you want to encourage that sort of behavior.
Isn't having paparazzi bad enough? . . . why ruin a good thing for fans to interact with their favorite celebrities? Interfering with something like that would definitely be a negative for the show and for Twitter!
I am juts soooooooooo mad right now....if this happens, there will be no more TWITTER....OHHHHH no..I really enjoy tweets from our celebrities, i mean, there goes our way of connecting with our favorite stars...Twitter, don't do this stupid show..you will lose money not make it.
ATTN STUPID TV SHOW PRODUCERS!! Instead of having contestants stalking celebs, why don't you have them "follow" random ordinary (and quite entertaining in their own right) people, that "VOLUNTEER" to be a part of this reality show idea?? There are plenty of funny, cute, interesting, entertaining, talented "Ordinary" people on twitter. LEAVE THE CELEBRITIES ALONE!
Crazy Idea...........
This will ruin Twitter.
hello no one likes to be stalked, think about it please!!!!!!!!!!!
This is an incredibly STUPID idea! Has anyone even taken into consideration the safety of not only the people put on the 'tail' of celebrities, but celebrities themselves? Not to mention it is a complete betrayal to those celebs who helped make twitter what it is...at least in it's popularity. You go through with this Twitter and you may as well wrap it up.
HORRIBLE IDEA!! Don't you guys dare!!
Horrible idea...just...horrible
This is pathetic. Do they realise that if this actually happens anyone twitter celebrity that is involved will probably leave twitter?
jesus effing christ cant they leave these people alone anywhere? these celebs finally have a way to correspond with their fan base as candid as they want without getting (too) creeped out and now that's being taken away from them. you couldn't pay me enough to be a celebrity. and if i were, my slogan would be EFFYOO!
Fail..Fail..Fail.Nothing good will come of this. Back off.
This is a ridiculous idea...and this is coming from a reality tv JUNKIE...this is going too far...we finally have a way to communicate with celebrities and now you want to run everyone off.
BAD IDEA!!
Ridiculous concept - I seriously hope this isn't true. All it would do is turn people - especially celebs away from twitter.
I follow a few celebs on Twitter, including both Demi and Ashton...and quite frankly I am going to be very upset if this show comes to fruition. Twitter is one way that these stars are able to interact with their fans in a way that is physically safe for them, yet allows their fans to see that they are humans just like the rest of us, put their pants on the same way, etc. Stars will drop their Twitter accounts like hotcakes and those of us who have enjoyed having this opportunity to rub elbows w
Horrible idea and I'm glad so many people recognize it.
do it and see what happens. screw with the celebs and you will lose alot of people on twitter. lets see how much twitter wants to lose its fan base. leave them alone. they deserve a place to go that they can say anything and its going to get ruined. your about to lose.
I've heard some pretty ignorant ideas in my 51 years on this earth but I think this one takes the cake! Pull this idea before you totally ruin Twitter. To those who came up with this idea..c'mere..i want to tatoo and 'L' for LOSER on your foreheads!
I won't be watching that show. All the celebrities will flee from Twitter. You guys suck. Come up with something original for once will ya!
Demi and Ashton have both twittered that they'll quit twitter if this happens. If twitter knows whats good for it it will scrap this idea
Probably the millionth person to say this at this point, but this is a f-cking terrible idea!!!
