"Bikini or Bust" star Ashley Paige is making the new year a little brighter for some homeless puppies in Bakersfield, California.
The animal-loving bikini designer, who turns her bikini boutique into a pet adoption center every Sunday, took two of the out-of-town pups into her Ruff Houzen animal rescue foundation.
A real estate appraiser found the abandoned trying to stay alive in a half-burnt shed a couple of weeks ago. Jeff Burgess (who is the true hero in this story) came back every day with food and blankets for the puppies. He told the Bakersfield Californian newspaper about them and started an e-mail campaign to try to save them.
Two of the puppies died. The future looked grim until Ashley learned about the puppies and offered to help. She told the Californian:
I’m taking two puppies and making a monetary donation for the care of the two adult ones.”
What a Happy New Year story, eh? Ashley, you're our first hero of 2009.
