Former Miss California Carrie Prejean has faced increasing media scrutiny over her actions and statements lately, but she's continuing to voice controversial opinions through her new book, Still Standing.  Prejean came under fire during the Miss USA pageant for saying that she doesn't support gay marriage.  In Still Standing she says, "If that makes me a bigot, so is Barack Obama."

Prejean does support civil unions, as long as they are not called "marriages."  Prejean also takes issue with the word "homophobic," which is generally accepted to mean one who has a fear or dislike of gay and lesbian people.  Prejean tries to take the word down to its roots, saying that in actually since "homo" means man, "homophobic" would mean "afraid of men."  It's not clear what she is attempting to accomplish with her quibbling.  Perhaps she's trying to disuade people from thinking she's ignorant, based on her previous comments.  Unfortunately for Prejean, as long as she keeps making these controversial statements, she's likely to continue to face criticism.

    Who cares what Prejean says?

The fact is, she has lied, she is a bigot, she is immoral, and she makes sex tapes.

    Enough is enough.

I too am a blogger... and a professional journalist. That said, I find - in my opinion... your headline for this column to be misleading and - to a great extent - false as evidenced by your later putting her full comment in CONTEXT.- what she is saying is

... if people want to "characterize" her opinions as bigoted... then the SAME views held by Obama... would, by extension and logical connection make the Presidents similarly held views subject to the same characterization as being bigoted.

She did NOT say "President Obama is a bigot". Shameless sensationalism on your part.

She didn't "call him a bigot." But she is annoying somehow.

Prejean is right, homophobic does break down to mean 'afraid of men.' As someone who does not condone homosexuality or lesbianism, I think a more accurate term for someone such as myself and Prejean is "anti homosexuality."

Being ALL male myself, I can say I watched the event when she was asked of the relations. It took more courage than anyone I have seen in years to make the statement she did when such a thing never should have been asked at an event that has been All American for decades! Leave it to little creep to ask such a thing to begin with. I am a MAN and I do not put up with the bashing of a beautiful YOUNG woman who has little life experience and to listen to you who cannot even change a tire say something like what you have...don't walk down my street!

@Anonymous Journalist: Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, sometimes my final edits do not go through when I save my articles, due to my internet browser's reaction to the Examiner Publishing Tool. The title on the piece as you saw it was my working title. The title as it is now is what I had planned to publish. My apologies to anyone who was confused.

Whether society calls her a homophobe or ignoramus for opposing legalized same-sex marriage, she wants to treat gay people in an inhumane and unequal manner before the law, which means, she is a bigot. President Obama, who once supported gay marriage as a state senator, is a political disingenuous opportunist, and shame on him too. Carrie should know better since she is young, and most young people support gay marriage. But I guess uneducated and dumb people tend to be against gay marriage, no matter what age they are.

The word h o m o in h o m o s e x u a l comes from the Greek "homos" which means same, not from the Latin "homo" meaning man. I don't blame her for not knowing Greek and Latin, I do however blame her for pretending to know.

Actually it doesn't mean man, it means "Same"
