Back when this was the Albuquerque True Crime column, we received more comments on the Amanda Knox case than any other story. I had no idea on her guilt, but I had issues with the Italian court’s handling of the case. Apparently Donald Trump agrees with me. Yes, that Donald Trump.

Trump’s last feud was with Rosie O’Donnell, and it was not pretty, for either of them. I posted one story about the Roman goddess Justitia, as exemplified in an Italian fresco. Hopefully, Trump doesn’t call Justitia the same names he called Rosie.
It is unknown whether he has told Amanda's current lawyers "You're fired!" and hired his own.
According to the English paper the Daily Star, dailystar.co.uk, Amanda Knox’s mother Edda Mellas said: “He has offered his help. He has been in touch with Amanda’s father and told him what has happened to Amanda is tragic.”
Still, like him or not, Trump does raise some good points. The English website goes on to note—Trump blogged: “There is a disturbing injustice surrounding the Amanda Knox case and I think we should boycott Italy until they do the right thing and free her. Knox was interrogated for over 50 hours in a five- day period and Italian law states that a suspect cannot be interrogated without a lawyer. During part of this interrogation, Amanda Knox did not have a lawyer.”
Again, Jusititia is supposed to be blind, and isn't supposed to try to choke you in her robe.
If Amanda does get out, at least we know she can get a job on celebrity apprentice.

It's fabulous to see a business leader move quickly to assist a family overwhelmed by the cost of defending their daughter against a bogus murder charge and the results of an unjust trial in Italy. His generosity and courage in picking up the cause of this tragic young American woman is a superb demonstration of American social activism. Mr Trump is doing as a private citizen what the Secretary of Mistake, Hillary Clinton, a moral coward has not. She only rails against America's boogiemen (North Korea & Iran) when clueless citizens violate their borders(the 2 Asian-American women journalists who admitted intentionally crossing the North Korean border& the 3 hikers in Iraqi Kurdistan who crossed the sensitive border with the IRI) or those who tamper with classified documents(Roxanne Saberi). All the witnesses, including Amanda Knox's interpreter, who were actually present when she was questioned testified under oath that she was treated well and wasn't hit.
Furthermore, Amanda Knox was questioned on 5 November 2007 as a witness and not as a suspect. This is the reason why a lawyer wasn't required. However, Knox could have still requested a lawyer. The interrogation was stopped when Knox became a suspect.
Amanda Knox voluntarily admitted that she was involved in Meredith's murder in her handwritten note to the police on 6 November 2007. She stated on four separate occasions that she was at the cottage when Meredith was murdered.
Both Amanda Knox and Rudy Guede claimed that Raffaele Sollecito was also at the cottage on the night of the murder.

From what you know of Raffaele Sollecito and Amanda Knox (and I'm assuming here that like the rest of us, you are able to recognise two young people from successful middle-class families, who are of previous good character, intellectually and committedly engaged in study, and have above-average intelligence), do you seriously think that they would suddenly one night join forces with a drug dealer and petty thief to brutally murder a friend of theirs? Given that the extremely unusual conditions which might facillitate such an ugly event came about, don't you think that Knox and Sollecito would probably baulk at the idea of joining in?
Look, if you can give us a Mignini-style hypothetical situation (obviously not a devil-worship, sex and drugs orgy style ritualistic killing), which would help our imaginations to envisage such an unlikely event, explain what Rudy might have said to Amanda etc., then we might come round to your way of thinking.

Harry Rag makes claims here and everywhere else about Amanda's statements to police. Let's see the video or recordings of these interrogations which according to the defense were required under law. Otherwise it's all second hand.
Italian law does not allow full public access to the record of this trial as in other western democracies. The result was a kangaroo court and a show trial that has made Italian justice the laughing stock of the western world.
There is massive evidence against Rudy Guede. There is no plausible scenario involving AK and RS which takes into account the forensic evidence of sexual contact between Guede and the victim. AK and RS holding down the victim while Rudy sexually assaults her? Did not happen, period. Somebody else coming in for 10 minutes and killing the victim while Rudy sits on the throne with his ipod? Did not happen, period. Final note: Genetic material on "the knife" tested negative for blood which means it wasn't used to stab anybody

Sollecito's family are being investigated for attempting to interfere with the investigation into Meredith's murder. Sollecito's sister, Vanessa, has already been dismissed from her job in the police force because of her attempts to influence the investigation.
Unlike, Rudy Guede, Amanda Knox had a criminal record before she was unanimously found guilty of sexual assault and murder. She was arrested for hosting a party that got seriously out of hand, with students high on drink and drugs, and throwing rocks into the road forcing cars to swerve.
Knox was fined $269 at the Municipal Court after the incident - Crime No: 071830624.

Mignini has never claimed that Meredith was killed as part of a satanic ritual.
PhanuelB: There is no obligation for the police to tape the interrogation of a witness and that is actually very rarely, if ever, done. (Amanda was being interviewed as a witness on Nov. 5, 2007 when she accused Lumumba). Generally only the interrogatory of an indicted person (which can be done exclusively by the Prosecutor in person) is taped, but there is no obligation for that either. Show me any Italian law which contradicts what I said. You can start with Law no. 63 of 2001, which disciplines this matter. Go ahead. If you need help with the Italian I recommend a course with Berlitz first.

PhanuelB: Did you find the Italian law that says that the interrogatory must be taped? Go ahead. Look also into Code of Penal Procedure, Title III - art. 134 through 142. No obligation uh? There is actually one case, where the videotaping is mandatory. Go ahead and find it. I'll give you a test later and see if I can give you a passing grade (hint: it's article 141-bis: go ahead and translate it).

I am stunned that anybody is trying to justify the lack of an electronic record for the interrogation or the right of the defense to obtain it in its entirety. The police in this police state were bugging all the communications of those of interest in the case so it's hard to believe they didn't record anything here. Throughout the world such interrogations are taped so the only reason it's not out in the open here is because a corrupt prosecution team doesn't want anybody to see it.
Curt Knox has said that Italian law required an electronic record of the interrogation. I believe that he would have gotten that from Amanda's Italian lawyers who have made repeated requests for this material.
Let me repeat. Italy is a western democracy, but in this case their justice system is broken.

When an American is abroad he/she is always innocent. S/he doesn't need a coherent alibi, s/he doesn't need to tell the truth to the police, s/he doesn't need an explanation for the DNA evidence or any other evidence against him/her. Since when Curt Knox is an authority in Italian law. Is that the 'independent' source of your thinking? No wonder you have such a misinformed and biased view of the case.
Art 141 bis of the Italian Code of Penal Procedure requires either audiotaping or videotaping of the interrogation of a person that is already being detained for a crime, and only when such interrogation occurs outside of regular hearing. THERE IS NO OBLIGATION TO VIDEOTAPE OR AUDIOTAPE THE INTERROGATION OF A WITNESS.
As a matter of fact the interrogation of a witness is rarely done. When the full interrogation is fully transcribed in writing, there is no need to have a tape of the interrogation of a witness. Check your legal sources buddy! Curt Knox doesn't know S*H*I*T about Italian law. And he should be hardly considered an 'independent' source.

Dave, I agree with you. One thing I won't try to do is figure out why many of those who back the verdict think as they do (I did try to listen to their side at the beginning, didn't make sense). Bottom line is that many of them just copy the prosecutor; ignoring the facts, repeating the same issues even though the foolishness of those issues have been pointed out, name-calling; ignoring that which makes sense in favor of their own agenda, whatever that is. Whatever it is though, it's not justce.

Wow, Harry, that out of context rambling sentence is so convincing. The complete disjointedness of it says more to her incoherance at the time, rather than the authenticity of the statement.

Amanda Knox's voluntary confession was accepted as evidence by Judge Massei.
The physical evidence corroborates her confession. She left a bloody footprint on the pillow under Meredith's body, Professor Vinci claimed he had found Knox's DNA on Meredith's bra and Knox tracked Meredith's blood around different parts of the cottage: the bathroom, the hallway and Filomena's room. She could only have done this if she had been in Meredith's room on the night of the murder.
Rudy Guede claimed that she was at the cottage when Meredith was killed. Raffaele Sollecito stated that she left his apartment at about 9pm and returned at about 1am. Sollecito refused to corroborate Knox's alibi that she was at his apartment at the trial.
It should be noted that both Knox and Sollecito gave multiple conflicting alibis and lied repeatedly. They still don't have credible alibis despite three attempts each.
This site is being bombarded with pathetic comments from the Friends Of Amanda Knox, which distort the truth and divert attention from the indisputable evidence of her guilt. Her witness statement was not fabricated by the police. She changed her story countless times, as did her boyfriend. At one stage, he refused to give her an alibi. They were cleaning up the scene of crime before being surprised by post off ice police etc. etc.
