You’ve known her as a former Disney Mouseketeer, a “Genie in a Bottle” and one of the “Dirrty” girls, but now this blonde bombshell wants to be a “Burlesque” performer. Well in a new movie role that is.
Multi-Grammy award winner, Christina Aguilera, has signed on to make her on screen debut in “Burlesque,” a Screen Gems produced musical.
Aguilera will play the role of a motivated, passionate small town girl who has a big voice. She finds comfort, love, and success in a neo-burlesque club similar to Bob Fosse’s “Cabaret.” The musical is set to take place in Los Angeles.
The film will be directed by Steven Antin, a successful screenwriter for films like “Gloria” and Chasing Papi.” Antin is also the brother of Robin Antin, the Pussycat Dolls founder. Besides the successful girl group version of the Pussycat Dolls, Robin Antin created a dance and burlesque ensemble that performs in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Hmm, makes you wonder if Steven will have his sister sign on to choreograph the club scenes. It wouldn’t be a bad idea, after all the success the Pussycat Dolls have brought Robin. And it sure helps that Christina Aguilera and Robin are no strangers. Back in 2007, Christina appeared as special guest performer in the Vegas Pussycat Lounge. Christina was also joined by the musical girl group of the Pussycat Dolls on her Back to Basics tour.
No doubt about it, this film will definitely bring back the “Dirrty” side of Aguilera.
