Once you've been touched by Oprah, all is right with the world. Gabourey Sidibe was the lucky recipient of such a touch Sunday at the Academy Awards when Oprah gave her a ringing endorsement heard round the world.
Oprah was part of a group of actors who introduced the Best Actress category Sunday evening. As an executive producer of Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, Winfrey spoke glowingly about Sidibe, a first time Oscar nominee. She spoke from the heart and Sidibe was left in tears, obviously moved by the tribute being paid to her.
Oprah, never one to shy away from how she truly feels, told the world how Sidibe landed her part, how she was a real Cinderella and how she is only at the start of an amazing career.
Sidibe had told People Magazine that Oprah wanted to be her date to the big event, but that she turned her down. You must be someone if you are turning Oprah down. The future for Sidibe is still unknown, but she has signed on for a recurring role on a new series from Showtime titled The Big C.
Having Oprah in your corner never hurt anybody.
