Graceland plans events for Elvis' 35th anniversary year

The 35th Anniversary of Elvis Presley's death is August 16 and those who work at Graceland are gearing up for a big year. Year-long events kick off this week this month during the annual birthday celebrations.

For Elvis fans, number 35 means a great deal this year. It means when August 16 rolls around, it will be the 35th anniversary of his death. It will be a solemn remembrance and a genuine celebration of his life as well. But, before we jump that far ahead, Graceland has plenty in store. With what is being called, "The 35th Anniversary Year of Elvis," it promises Elvis' fans a year-long celebration of his life and legacy. Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. has released information regarding the events.

After the kickoff Jan 8, Elvis' birthday, events will continue through Elvis Week 2012 in August. That, notes a statement from Graceland officials, "is expected to draw 75,000 fans from around the world, who will make the pilgrimage to Memphis to visit Graceland and take part in a week-long event that celebrates the music icon."
