Though Kelly Clarkson told them she has no problem with her weight, the editors of Self Magazine may not agree with her.
Editor-in-chief Lucy Danziger wrote in a post on Self.com, "Yes. Of course we do retouching...Did we alter her appearance? Only to make her look her personal best."
Danziger goes on to call Clarkson "the picture of confidence," and says, "I think this photo is the truest we have ever put out there on the newsstand."
People.com, however, points out some of the reader reactions to the cover photo have not been positive. "Hey, hi, Self ladies: None this changes or explains the fact that YOU ALTERED THE BONE STRUCTURE OF HER FACE," wrote one reader on jezebel.com.
Another wrote, "Taking out red eye and airbrushing a pimple would be making her look her personal best. You completely changed the way her body looked. Why even bother asking Kelly Clarkson to pose in your magazine if you didn't think her body fit into your idea of what was best?"
What do you think of the cover controversy?

I personally want to see beautiful, talented, smart women on tv and in magazines that look more like me and my gorgeous female friends and family. I like eat and be healthy. I also look like a normal person. I want the young women of the world (especially the western world) to feel like they can be healthy and comfortable in the their bodies. Eating Disorders are at an all time high and affecting younger and younger women. It's probably only going to get worse.
I want Kelly to be the woman that she is, big booty and all. Wow! Girl's got back, I love it!
And I guess an airbrush here and there is fine. I suppose I wouldn't want the whole world to see a pimple. But this is a whole other story.
Why take the picture if you're only going to alter it substantially anyway? At least be honest, it's no longer a 'picture' it's now an "artists's rendering."
Pictures are like clothes...don't show the ugly and dirty ones
