James Cameron's Avatar still dominates the box office and is nearing a domestic record.
James Cameron's 3-D epic Avatar has been atop the box office for seven straight weeks. Avatar has already broken the worldwide record for ticket sales with $2,039,222,000 in tickets sold, and it appears that Avatar may also break the domestic record set by James Cameron's very own 1997 film, Titanic.
Titanic's domestic ticket sales closed at $600,788,188, while its foreign sales were $1,242,413,080--totaling for a worldwide-sales figure of $1,843,201,268. Avatar has already reached $594,472,000 in domestic sales and $1,444,750,000 in foreign sales, for a grand total of $2,039,222,000 worldwide (and counting).
James Cameron is no stranger to success; he has served as either director, writer, producer, or other significant roles in such films as Escape from New York, The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Aliens, The Abyss, True Lies, Titanic, and Avatar, as well as the Dark Angel television series.
Providence moviegoers can catch Avatar at the Providence Place Mall.
