Tiger Woods apology: Too little too late? (video)

Tiger Woods took to the cameras for the first time since his salacious affair scandal hit, offering sincere apologies without reall addressing anything specific or offering any new insight as to where he's going from here career-wise or with his marriage.

Woods, speaking before a hand-picked group he approved, spoke in solemn tones and occasionally chocked back tears as he talked about his family and just how wrong he was.

"I know people want to find out how I can be so selfish and so foolish." he said. "People want to know how I could have done these things to my wife Elin and my children…My real apology to her will not come in the form of words. It will come in my behavior over time. We have a lot to discuss. However, what we say to each other will be between the two of us."

"My behavior has been a personal disappointment," he said. "I have made you question who I am and how I could have done the things I did. I'm embarrassed that I have put you in this position. For all that I have done, I am so sorry. I have a lot to atone for."

Woods also said his wife, Elin Nordegren, did not hit him that fateful November night after Thanksgiving when he crashed his SUV into a tree and a fire hydrant. His apology comes nearly three months after his indiscretions came to light, something the golfer initially apologized for on his own website. Since then, 15 women have come out to proclaim they had trysts with the famed golfer.

How this apology serves Woods at this point is unclear considering the fact that he said he has no plans to return to his sport anytime soon. What do you think? Was it enough or is this the more in the vain of Chris Brown's apology?

Hello fellow Examiner (i'm in Columbus, OH)! Thanks for posting this. I am now getting to watch his apology from your site. I think Tiger did better than Chris Brown. He was more direct and accountable in the pre-written speech. It was well executed. I just want him to go back to golf. That's all I expect from Tiger at this point. He can keep his private matters private.

I am glad that Tiger Woods broke his silence. After listening to Tiger I feel positive that he is going in the right direction to get his derailed life back on the right track. I think that in each one of us there is a divine power that can be used to help us overcome any obstacle and adversity. I am encouraged that Tiger mentioned he is using his inner strength to regain balance in his life to save the two things that are most important to him, his wife and his children. Tiger said that Elin deserves praise and I wholeheartedly agreed. I want to tell Tiger that I hope and pray that one day Elin find room in her heart to believe in him again. God Bless!
