Lindsay Lohan tried to help Mischa Barton

Sources told FOXNews.com that Lindsay Lohan tried to help an “out of control” Mischa Barton in 2008, but broke off the friendship after being unsuccessful at reaching the “O.C.” actress.

Barton and Lohan, both 23, worked together as Ford child models based out of New York City and ran in the same circles during the height of Barton’s fame. FOX’s source said:

Lindsay and Mischa used to go out all the time together in Los Angeles. They were like kindred spirits when it came to clubbing and letting loose. They have many mutual friends, but everything shifted for Lindsay last year at a party. Mischa was completely out of control, and Lindsay sat Mischa down then to make it clear that she needed help. Lindsay was desperate for Mischa to clean herself up and offered a treatment facility and a therapist to help Mischa. Mischa completely ignored Lindsay, and that was the end.

Barton, who was set to have a role in the CW’s new show “The Beautiful Life,” was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold last week. A People magazine source says she has now left the medical center, though her publicist told Entertainment Weekly that his client “continues to improve but is still undergoing treatment.” Barton is expected to join the cast of “The Beautiful Life” when production begins on July 31.
