Michael Irvin accused of rape; Lawsuit filed, alleged victim passed lie detector test, according to her attorney
Former Dallas Cowboys star Michael Irvin is being accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The alleged victim has now filled a lawsuit in the Broward Circuit Court against Irvin.
Michael Irvin's attorney has called the allegations a false attempt at "civil extortion", the AP reported.
The woman, known as "Jane Doe", alleges the rape took place on July 4 or 5, 2007. She is seeking unspecified damages.
Seminole tribal police originally received a report on the sexual assault from Jane Doe on July 20, 2007. At the time the woman signed a waiver of prosecution, a spokesman for the Seminole tribe stated. The spokesman said "I think she just wanted to put this behind her,". The case was referred to state prosecutors.
The woman's lawyer, David Lister, said his client had passed a polygraph test. Lister said that his client and Irvin's lawyer had been in settlement talks. When the talks failed to go any further, they chose to file the lawsuit, only three days before the Super Bowl is being played in Miami, Florida.
Micheal Irvin's attorney, Larry Friedman, said that the woman wanted $1 million dollars or she would file a lawsuit that world occur at the time of the Super Bowl.
Friedman said "I call it civil extortion: pay us or we'll ruin your life," Also, "Nothing happened. There was no encounter between this Jane Doe and Michael Irvin. The entire story is false, it's bogus, it's made up."
Micheal Irvin is a South Florida native. He was born in Fort Lauderdale on March 5th, 1966. Before becoming a NFL star, he played college football at the University of Miami.
**UPDATE** Michael Irvin has filled a $100 million dollar countersuit against his accuser. Read more here.

So let me see if I understand this: she didn't press charges, no criminal charges have been filed, case never went before a grand jury, nothing, right? Then this is extortion because if she were actually raped, she'd want to press charges, not wait two and a half years and file a civil lawsuit.
