Christian Dior has been struggling stepping up fashion over the past year. Toppled by the lack of direction since John Galliano was let go, the reflection in Paris Fashion Show lacks passion as the fashion as almost too safe to be Dior. Bill Gaytten took up the looks for the 2012 show on Monday but there was plenty of yawning at the gowns gracing the catwalk.
As the glitz and glamour of the award season looks to the big designers like Dior for ideas to walk the red carpet, let’s all hope eyes were closed for the Dior Haute Couture 2012 show. The threads were reflective of the designs in years past and hardly worth the time to be seen on the red carpet of any award show.
Appearing to celebrate the history and nostalgia of Dior’s line, the fashion showed off layers, extreme construction of gowns and used transparent fabric to provide an inside glimpse of the design. The full skirts with extraordinary shape of perfection graced an abundance of gowns, but this has been seen before and lacked any real passion of fashion.
The gorgeous looks of the Christian Dior Haute Couture show definitely will sell, but that is because the look is safe. The fashion seen this year is a disappointment for a passionate label that usually indulges in an edge combined with grace, beauty and passion which in turn is duplicated in Hollywood.
