March 1, 2010 -- The closing ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver featured famous Canadian entertainers who spanned the musical sphere at least four decades.
The inimitable Neil Young tops the list of icons, playing guitar on the BC Place stage to sing his anthem, "Long May You Run" as the Olympic flames blazed behind the very adored singer.
The lyrics definitely hit home for all the Olympians who were there to watch:
“We’ve been through some things together
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
Long may you run.”
Another highlight was Alanis Morrisette, who soulfully sang “Wunderkind”, a tune from 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'. And Nickelback brought the crowd together with 'How you Remind Me' and 'Burn It to the Ground,' the latter appropriately backed by a blaze of pyrotechnics.
Every performer -- each a proud Canadian -- was a hit for the crowd both in BC Place and in the television audenice, as you can see in the pictures below. Enjoy!
