This year's festival co-directors, Piers Handling and Cameron Bailey unveiled a small selection of the films to be screen at the 35th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this September. The selections included 15 Galas, 35 Special Presentations and one Masters. Twenty-five of the films are world premieres. TIFF has become one of the most noted festivals on the circuit, attracting some of the biggest films and celebrities. In recent years TIFF has become the festival in which Oscar nominations are predicted and campaigns begun.
Among the 51 selections announced today are some pretty big Hollywood productions. Robert Redford’s film, The Conspirator about Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, The Town, a thriller directed by Ben Affleck and Woody Allen’s, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger will all screen at TIFF. Barney’s Version, an adaptation of Canadian author, Mordechai Richler’s novel of the same name has also been chosen for the festival. The film stars Dustin Hoffman and Montreal-born actress Rachelle Lefevre.
Big films mean big celebrities. Actors expected attend the festival include, Marion Cotillard, Robert Redford, Nicole Kidman, Kevin Spacey, Hilary Swank, Sam Worthington, Jon Hamm, Clive Owen and Robert De Niro. Canadian actors Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Gosling and Christopher Plummer will also be in attendance. The festival will release a full list of confirmed actors and directors later this summer.
The line-up for TIFF should only get better as the festival is expecting close to 300 films to participate. A full list of films will be announced at the end of August. Stay tuned for more on TIFF and all the celebrity gossip to come out of this year’s festival!
