The Fame by Lady Gaga is the most important album of the decade. It not only sold millions of copies worldwide, but open doors for women that even Madonna couldn't touch. Lady Gaga is bigger than Madonna: She is the new female Elvis.
When "Just Dance" broke out late last year, many considered Lady Gaga a flash in the pan. However, she has proven her critics wrong and has released several hit singles. Her latest hit "Bad Romance" is one of the greatest songs released over the past twenty years.
We still have great respect for Madonna and all her accomplishments. However, Ray of Light and Like a Prayer could never touch the musical masterpiece known as "The Fame."

I hardly like Lady Gaga--albeit that she is very good--is comparable to Madonna. Time will tell if that turns out to be true. Also, comparing the two is an exercise in futility. Why don't we just give Lady Gaga the credit she deserves and let her stand on and by her own merit?
I agree, I can picture lady gaga staying around (and relevant) for years and years. She has the ability to write massive hits and is already starting to evolve and change on her second record The Fame Monster.

If she has made the album of the decade, then this decade is nothing but a joke...Which sadly, it is. We are in the 20th century and yet, we keep falling for the same tricks over and over again. We have learned nothing.

The Fame is a very good album, but saying it's better than Ray of Light is simply musical ignorance. The Fame is a great debut album, but does few things more than most pop albums. Ray of Light was a conceptual and musical break-through.
And frankly it annoys me that people like you blatantly declare an album like The Fame to be album of the decade when there's been so much great music like Radiohead's Kid A and In Rainbows or Fleet Foxes. These albums are far superior to The Fame, and what do you know, of this decade as well. I don't think you know anything about good music, or the music of this decade for that matter.

The closest to Madonna's success is Britney Spears, and even she doesn't even have half of what Madonna has. Lady Gaga still has a long way to go. Just because a girl puts out a good album (which is still a 1X platinum album) doesn't mean that she's the greatest.

I was skeptical of Gaga at first, but over the last few months I've really gotten into her music. I don't know about Album of the Decade, but it's one of the best for sure.
Especially her second one. And she's just getting started.
