Madonna is still the Queen of Pop

It must be hard for Mariah Carey to look at the first week sales figures of her poorly reviewed Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. According to Hits Daily Double, Mariah will debut behind both Barbra Streisand and Paramore with a brand new studio album that she shamelessly promoted to almost every media outlet. Madonna comes behind at number 7 (Celebration), but with a double disc greatest hits album that has most songs already available on other discs.
Even if Madonna doesn't like her first week numbers in the United States, she can be satisfied that she has debuted at number one in several countries and worldwide, her greatest hits album is selling through the roof with sales already reported at 2 million. Mariah's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel has barely made a dent in the charts worldwide. There is a reason for this: Mariah is old, washed up, and dresses like an underweight twenty year old when, in reality, she is an overweight forty year old.
Mariah should take lessons from Madonna: in order to continually sell records, you need to have at least a small amount of talent. Madonna's voice may only be average, but Mariah's voice has become a technical fingers-on-a-chalkboard disaster. Madonna's songwriting skills shine through on many songs such as "Live to Tell, "Miles Away," and "Like a Prayer." Mariah, on the other hand, sounds like she makes up the lyrics to her songs while she sings them.
The main reason Madonna is still successful while Mariah's career tanks is touring. Even during one of the worst recessions ever, Madonna can still fill up 50,000+ stadiums in the United States and play to 90,000+ stadiums worldwide. That's because she is an excellent performer who gives her audience what they want. Even non-fans attend Madonna's concerts because they know how great of a performer she is.
Mariah...not so much! The stuffed sausage looking singer struggled to fill a 2,000 seat theater in Las Vegas recently. A tour, which was planned last year, was suddenly terminated after Mariah's singles kept bombing. In order to fill seats, Mariah Carey would be better off playing small high school or junior high school auditoriums. This way, she wouldn't be so embarassed.
There is still hope for Mariah Carey. At this point in her career, she would do really well as a backup singer. This way, her faltering voice wouldn't be so noticeable. She can also become a Vegas lounge act where lipsyncing isn't as frowned upon. Let's all wish Mariah the best of luck.

im a huge madonna fan and i have always found her more fascinating and relevant but mariah is not so bad. i do agree madonna has meant much more to the music world than mariah but i have to disagree with mariah having no talent. she is talented. she has one of the best voices in showbusiness. her record sales were phenomenal at several stages. and she does have more no 1s in the billboard charts.
whether shes a has-been or not i really dont know. but yes madonna has always been a much stronger performer. and more famous, successful and popular worldwide.

Look I like Mariah from back in the day and she has an occasional good song now and then but for the most part I agree with Randy on some of this. Madonna is current and hip, always evolving and knows albums don't sell anymore, it's all about touring. Madge is an AMAZING performer, I wasn't a huge fan until I saw Confessions. I quickly learned why she's the Queen of Pop.

Actually, in terms of hit songs and album sales this decade, Mariah has destroyed Madonna. Hard Candy didn't even reach platinum. I'm not a Madonna fan, but I won't criticize her (unlike you) because I think she is a great performer. The problem here is that there is no point in comparing these two legendary artists. Mariah is not a dancer, she's a singer. And Mariah can still sing, and even though her songs might not become a hit, that's just because America doesn't know what good music is anymore. Seriously, Party in the USA vs I Want to Know What Love is??? Hands down the latter is a better song while the former is terrible. But Party in the USA is doing well because Americans suck.

Mariah Carey is a polarizing artist. Either you love her or hate her. People who love her see the good and real talent in her. People who hate her are clearly envious of her. Why? Because no matter how hard they try or dream, they will never have a voice like Mariah Carey's. There are so many Madonna wannabe's and impersonators. But no one can copy Mariah's singing style because nobody can't. These are the reasons why Mariah Carey is polarizing.

Ducky, you haqve no CLUE what you are talking about Madonna does care about her fans, Madonna donates millions each each back to help others VERY few do this, she supports over 1 million kids in Africa and gives tickets to every show away to disabled fans. Madonna has been giving back from DAY 1 I can't think of ANY other artist who can say that.
